Blanche Neige - Un Conte de Fées
Snow White - A Fairy Tale
1. Une Jeune Princesse
Il était une fois une jeune princesse. Ses cheveux étaient noirs, ses joues bien rouges et son teint si blanc qu'on l'avait appelée Blanche Neige.
Once upon a time, there was a young princess. Her hair was black, her cheeks were rosy and her complexion so white that she was called Snow White.
Malheureusement, sa mère, la reine, mourut juste après la naissance de Blanche Neige.
Unfortunately, her mother, the queen, died just after Snow White's birth.
Son père se remaria, mais la belle-mère de Blanche Neige était très jalouse de la jeune princesse.
Her father remarried, but Snow White's step-mother was very jealous of the young princess.
Elle était méchante et très jalouse.
She was wicked and very jealous.
2. Le Miroir Magique
La belle-mère avait un miroir magique. En y regardant son réflet, elle lui demandait chaque jour:
- Miroir, gentil miroir! Quelle est la plus belle du royaume?
The step-mother had a magic mirror. Looking at her reflection. each day she would ask:
"Mirror, mirror on the wall! Who is the fairest of them all?"
Chaque fois, le miroir la rassurait, en lui disant qu'elle était la plus belle du royaume jusqu'au jour où le miroir lui fit cette réponse:
- Ô Reine, vous êtes la plus belle ici
mais Blanche Neige est mille fois plus jolie!
Each time, the mirror reassured her by saying that she was the most beautiful of the kingdom until the day when the mirror replied in this way:
"Oh Queen, you are the fairest one here
but Snow White is one thousand times more fair."
La reine devint verte de jalousie. Elle ordonna à un chasseur de tuer la jeune princesse mais le pauvre homme fut incapable de le faire. Au lieu de cela, il emmena Blanche Neige dans la forêt et la supplia de s'enfuir le plus loin possible pour que la reine ne puisse jamais découvrir qu'elle était encore en vie.
The queen turned green with jealousy. She ordered a hunter to kill the the young princess but the poor man was incapable of doing so. Instead, he led Snow White into the forest and begged her to flee as far away as possible so that the queen could never discover that she was still alive.
3. Une Petite Maison Dans La Forêt
La jeune fille marcha pendant des heures à travers les bois. Elle arriva épuisée devant une petite maison. Il n'y avait personne. À l'intérieur, tout était minuscule: les meubles, la vaisselle...
The young girl walked for hours through the woods. She arrived exhausted in front of a little house. Nobody was there. Inside, everything was tiny: the furniture, the crockery....
Les lits étaient si petits! Il y en avait sept! Blanche Neige voulait se reposer. Elle dut mettre les sept lits les uns à côté des autres pour pouvoir s'y coucher!
The beds were so small! There were seven of them. Snow White wanted to rest. She had to place the seven beds side by side to be able to lie down!
4. Les Sept Nains
Quand elle se réveilla, elle se trouva entourée de sept petits nains sympathiques qui habitaient cette maison. Ils écoutèrent son histoire et la trouvèrent si triste qu'ils proposèrent à Blanche Neige de rester avec eux et de tenir leur maison.
When she woke up, she found herself surrounded by seven friendly, little dwarfs who lived in that house. They listened to her story and found her so sad that they suggested to Snow White that she could stay with them and look after their house.
Tous les matins, quand ils partaient au travail, ils lui faisaient mille recommandations car ils savaient bien que, tôt ou tard, la reine la retrouverait. Et c'était vrai! Ils avaient raison!
Every morning, when they set off for work, they gave her lots of advice because they knew that sooner or later the queen would find her. And it was true! They were right!
La méchante reine avait appris par son miroir magique que Blanche Neige était cachée dans les bois.
The wicked queen had found out through her magic mirror that Snow White was hidden in the woods.
5. La Méchante Reine Arrive À La Maison Pour La Première Fois
La reine se déguisa en marchande ambulante et partit à sa recherche.
The queen disguised herself as a travelling merchant and set off to search for her.
Quand elle arriva à la petite maison, elle montra ses belles ceintures à Blanche Neige.
When she arrived at the little house, she showed her beautiful belts to Snow White.
Les ceintures plurent beaucoup à la jeune fille qui demanda à en essayer une. La marchande la lui passa autour de la taille mais elle la serra si fort que Blanche Neige s'évanouit.
The young girl liked the belts and asked to try one. The merchant-woman passed it around her waist and pulled it so tightly that Snow White fainted.
Heureusement, les nains rentrèrent peu de temps après et ils réussirent à la sauver.
Luckily, the dwarfs returned home shortly afterwards and they managed to save her.
La méchante reine était très contente et convaincue d'avoir tué la princesse. Comme toujours, elle demanda à son miroir magique:
- Miroir, gentil miroir, quelle est la plus belle du royaume?
The wicked queen was very happy and convinced that she had killed the princess. As always, she asked her magic mirror:
"Mirror, mirror, on the wall.
Who is the fairest of them all?"
- Ô Reine, vous êtes la plus belle ici, - répondit le miroir, - mais Blanche Neige dans la forêt est mille fois plus jolie!
"Oh Queen, you are the fairest one here" replied the mirror," but Snow White in the forest is one thousand times more fair!"
La reine trembla de colère. Elle s'enferma dans la plus haute tour du château où se trouvait son laboratoire de magie et elle chercha dans ses livres un sortilège infaillible.
The queen trembled with rage. She shut herself in the highest tower of the castle where her magic laboratory was found and she searched in her books for a magic spell that would not fail.
6. La Méchante Reine Arrive À La Maison Pour La Deuxième Fois
La reine se déguisa en vendeuse et elle retourna à la petite maison. Mais, Blanche Neige ne la laissa pas entrer. Cependant, en regardant par la fenêtre Blanche Neige vit un si beau peigne qu'elle décida de l'acheter.
The queen disguised herself as a seller and returned to the little house. But Snow White did not let her in. However, whilst looking through the window Snow White saw a comb that was so beautiful that she decided to buy it.
Hélas! C'était un peigne vénéneux! Dès qu'elle se le passa dans les cheveux, elle tomba par terre et s'évanouit. Heureusement, les nains rentrèrent à temps pour la sauver.
Alas! It was a poisonous comb! As soon as she passed it through her hair, she fell to the ground and fainted. Luckily, the dwarfs returned home in time to save her.
La méchante reine se réjouissait d'avoir tué la princesse. Mais, plus tard, son miroir lui dit que Blanche Neige était toujours en vie!
The wicked queen rejoiced for having killed the princess. But later her mirror told her that Snow White was still alive!
Elle était furieuse.
She was furious.
7. La Méchante Reine Arrive À La Maison Pour La Troisième Fois.
Elle Porte Une Pomme Empoisonnée.
La reine alla voir la jeune fille en se présentant sous le déguisement d'une vieille paysanne. Elle lui offrit une magnifique pomme rouge qu'elle portait dans son sac.
The queen went to see the young girl, introducing herself in the disguise of an old peasant-woman. She offered her a magnificent red apple which she carried in her bag.
Blanche Neige, méfiante, ne voulut pas mordre dedans. La reine intelligente l'avait prévu, ainsi n'avait-elle mis son poison que dans une partie de la grosse pomme!
Snow White, distrusting, did not want to bite into it. The clever queen had foreseen this so she had only put her poison into one part of the big apple!
- Pourquoi te méfies-tu? demanda-t-elle. Regarde comme cette pomme est bonne!
"Why don't you trust me?" she asked. "Look how good this apple is!"
Et elle croqua dans la bonne partie. Tout de suite, Blanche Neige fut convaincue que le fruit n'était pas empoisonné et elle ne put résister à l'envie de croquer dans la pomme que lui présenta la femme.
And she crunched into the good part. Immediately, Snow White was convinced that the fruit was not poisoned and she could not resist the desire to bite into the apple that the woman held out to her.
Mais à peine la première bouchée fut-elle dans sa bouche qu'elle tomba sans vie sur le parquet!
But as soon as the first bite was in her mouth, she fell lifeless to the floor.
Cette fois, les nains ne purent rien faire. La jeune fille était vraiment morte, même si elle ne semblait qu'endormie!
This time, the dwarfs could do nothing. The young girl really was dead, even if she only seemed asleep.
Ils la mirent dans un cercueil de cristal et la déposèrent dans une clairière afin d'aller voir leur chère amie aussi souvent qu'ils le voulaient. Ils étaient si tristes!
They lay her in a crystal tomb and placed her in a forest clearing so that they could see their dear friend whenever they wished. They were so sad!
8. Un Beau Prince
Un jour, un prince arriva dans la forêt. Il était émerveillé par la beauté de la jeune fille. Quand les nains lui racontèrent la triste histoire de la princesse, il eut tant de chagrin qu'il s'évanouit.
One day, a prince arrived in the forest. He was dazzled by the young girl's beauty. When the dwarfs told him the sad story of the princess, he was so grief-stricken that he fainted.
Et il tomba sur le cercueil. Sous l'effet du choc, le morceau de pomme coincé dans la gorge de Blanche Neige fut expulsé.
He fell onto the tomb. Through the shock, the piece of apple that was stuck in Snow White's throat came out.
La jeune fille ouvrit les yeux.
- Où suis-je ? demanda-t-elle.
- Tu es près de moi, répondit le prince en la serrant dans ses bras.
The young girl opened her eyes.
"Where am I?" she asked.
"You are with me," replied the prince, holding her in his arms.
La méchante reine fut emprisonnée. Le prince et Blanche Neige se marièrent et
ils vécurent heureux et eurent beaucoup d'enfants.
The wicked queen was imprisoned. The prince and Snow White were married and they lived happily ever after.
