Some questions answered:-
Who should purchase this course?
UK and Irish primary schools.
Who should use this course?
This teaching system is designed ideally for the non-specialist primary teacher but it can be used by specialist MFL practitioners, primary school teaching assistants, native speakers, visiting secondary school language teachers.
This resource will be of particular interest to primary schools wishing to install the French language throughout their school, i.e. involving the whole school. There is no requirement to purchase separate materials according to age group as this course caters for every year – from Reception through to Year 6 - and it aims to involve the whole school community.
What is the aim of this course?
The main objectives are
* To install immediately the teaching / presence of French in every year group of the primary sector.
· To provide continuity in the language learning.
· To enthuse pupils through a variety of methods and resources.
· To develop the language knowledge and language teaching skills of the primary teachers. For this reason, the course is presented as a detailed methodology and is intended to guide and inform the primary teacher. In addition to the expertise of a school's MFL coordinator, the pupils’ own class teachers can be a major source of the language practice in the primary sector The reasons for this are:-
- Primary teachers are extremely talented in their ability to teach a wide range of subjects.
- They spend the whole day, every day, with the same pupils. During that time, there are enormous and continual opportunities to involve the target language without the necessity for a definite teaching session, i.e. the language can be made relevant to all areas of the curriculum and school life.
- Small and continual bursts of language practice every day are more effective than longer, less frequent sessions.
- The involvement and development of all teachers in primary languages can only enhance the MFL learning environment. The individual specialisms and strengths of each teacher will be naturally apparent in their style of language delivery, creating a colourful and varied whole-school experience
How was the course developed?
This course is the result of daily teaching of modern languages in a large variety of schools, including a school for the deaf. The methods detailed in the lesson plans have been tried and tested by Euroclub since 1992. The development and discovery of new approaches and methods within Euroclub is ongoing, therefore purchasing schools will receive regularly updated ‘lesson plans discs’ and other resources as they become available.
Will Euroclub assist after schools purchase the course?
Euroclub will be delighted to assist. We are always happy to discuss schools’ queries by telephone, fax, e-mail and/or a visit to the school concerned, if requested.
